Since the birth of this great nation, America has been filled with thinkers, workers, and innovators. Because of this mixture, America has become what it is today. Unfortunately, people are not the same as they were back then. Sure there are still workes, thinkers, and innovators, but the number of lazy people outnumber these greatly. In my opinion, if things keep going the way they are, we will begin to back peddle, losing what our ancestors have worked so hard to achieve.
I can't tell you how many times I have looked on Facebook and saw "Work today. FML." or something to that effect. The funny thing is, that person's shift may only last 4 or 5 hours. Do these people not realize that not too long ago in the begginning of the twentieth century, people worked ten hour shifts in factories? Not only that, but their pay was not exactly the greatest.
Before I start ranting and raving about the laziness of people these days, I'm just gonna get to the point. Remember where you came from and what people had to go through to get you where you are now. Finally, look at the past and learn from their work effort and persistence to achieve the impossible and model your life after these tireless efforts.
Happy 4th
Why We Blog
In my English 101 class at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, my students came to a realization--if you want to be good at something you have to practice it. They all mentioned they spent on average 4-5 hours a week on activities they considered themselves good at, but less than an hour a week writing. Why? Because they thought writing only counted when it was for school. So we agreed to try to write more on subjects and topics not related to school. This blog is a forum for all of us to voice our opinions, to be heard, to think and, most importantly to write.
Way to beat me to the punch, Bobby! I was going to make a similar post. Well said.
ReplyDeleteI would like to add that I am grateful that we share the luxury of free speech. I love to write and one of my greatest fears is to have my writing censured or controlled. Sometimes I disagree with our government and sometimes I disagree with the media, but I am always grateful that I can share my opinions and that I can read the opinions of others without fear of reprisal from the government.
Please, as we continue in our course, remember that while you my find writing to be hard work, you should also be grateful that you are allowed to express yourself in this extremely powerful way. It's not that long ago that people sought to keep groups of Americans such as Slaves, Native Americans, and even the Irish, ignorant, particularly illiterate, because they knew that with literacy came power.
Just for an example, true abolitionism really gained momentum in America when Frederick Douglas wrote his autobiography explaining what it was like to be a slave. This document, while not perfect, helped to pave the way for the future that our beloved MLK dreamed about and that I believe we are so close to attaining.
God bless this country. We're not perfect, but we have hope and we have a foundation in freedom. I believe that these two qualities will lead us to further greatness.
Happy 4th "My Fellow Americans!"
Haha the only reason I decided to do that post was because I have been watching a marathon of "America the Story of Us" on the History Channel pretty much all day.
ReplyDeleteSo, my opinion on the USA. Well I guess that I'm one of those guys that really really really loves this great nation. It aggravates the living crap out of me when people don't stand for the Pledge or they don't say it. I'm sorry if you live in this country then I consider it an insult to all of the men and women who died for all of us to sleep in peace at night.
ReplyDeleteIn my mind my future is to give our soldiers some piece when they are overseas. The reason that I'm not going into the military is because while our men and women are defending our nation overseas I will be keeping their families safe at home. It's the least that I could do to try and repay the debt that each and every one own a soldier.
I guess that all but to all of those people who call themselves Americans but don't practice their partiotizm, I say if you don't love this country with your whole heart then you can leave! And to all of those people, like the two men who shot and killed two police officers, Ya'll are defiantly not Americans and ya'll should be tried and killed for what you did.
As you can tell I love my country and hate those who don't respect it!!
GOD BLESS THE USA!!!!!
I have a feeling a debate on capital punishment is a'brewin
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea!!
