Why We Blog

In my English 101 class at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, my students came to a realization--if you want to be good at something you have to practice it. They all mentioned they spent on average 4-5 hours a week on activities they considered themselves good at, but less than an hour a week writing. Why? Because they thought writing only counted when it was for school. So we agreed to try to write more on subjects and topics not related to school. This blog is a forum for all of us to voice our opinions, to be heard, to think and, most importantly to write.

Maybe The Mayans Were Right...

Many people around the world have heard of the great Mayan mysteries and prophecies. Along with these prophecies the most popular one seems to be that the world will come to an end in the year 2012. The Mayan's mysteries in the past of man's misfortunes have not exactly all been correct, but if interpreted in the right sense any fortune can apply to the current situation. Of course I believe in God and I believe he has a plan and with in this plan he has kept when the end of the world will come to end as a secret for no one to know. However, there are many superstitious people in the world today who will believe anything the media blows out of proportion.
The current outrage amongst the people today seems to be the mass hysteria about the world abruptly stopping. And the sad thing is, that even the people who do really believe the world is ending are not changing their simply barbaric lifestyles at all. You would think this would scare the badness out of people, but I have seen no such changes in any way. In fact, this world is on the break of wars on natural resources because of different nations being greedy and no unity or trustworthy compromises have been made in the past few years that are substantial to the well-being and preservation of the Earth.
The Mayans also failed to tell how the world would end. Some people say it will end with ice, while others argue it will end with fire, but I think it will only end when God thinks its right time. And my trust in God lets me know that we will not die horrendous deaths due to fire, ice, or flooding, but will be free of these lives of sin and finally enjoy our everlasting lives in Heaven, a place where only good occurs. So, in saying this if you believe the world really is ending, and are okay with having one more full year to live; live it up.
